Best Wireless Headphones for Fitness, Working Out and Running

Alex Harris in Florida playing music

I am not a huge fan of working out.

After gaining a lot of weight, I really needed to motivate myself to get out and get moving. I was spending all day behind a computer, easting at my desk and snacking on munchies whenever possible.

Here are the top 3 ways, that have motivated me to get out and exercise a few times a week:

  1. Gamification of my exercise routine
  2. Change my mindset to focus on the end end results and feeling I get from completing an exercise session
  3. Use my exercise time to listen to audio books, music and research for my podcast interviews

The most effective way to make my exercising more fun is to listen to enjoyable content. This is easier said than done. That is because finding he right set of wireless headphones is a mission in itself. In the last few years, I have owned dozens of different wireless headphones.

I started out buying a few cheaper version of different headphones off the internet. You know those persuasive ads that show for you in Instagram. I bought a few of those headphones. Trying to save a few bucks, I quickly released that most of these headphones wouldn't take the sweaty abuse of my long runs in the Florida sun.

Here are some of the wireless headphones that I have bought, return or just gave up on:

I bought these headphones after seeing an advertisement on Instagram. While they had great customer service and replaced my first set of headphones, I ended up not using them and selling them used on eBay.  They were inconsistent and I was a little concerned about the size of the battery. Otherwise they worked well. They do have a specific cord for charing the headphones, so don't lose misplace the charging cord because you will need to reorder one from their website.

While these headphones are great and work well, I didn't want any wires. It was annoying to have the wire bouncing when I was running, lifting or doing crossfit.

I wanted these to really work and I really didn't want to get the more expensive Pro version. The Apple Airpods just weren't for me. They didn't feel right moving around a lot and exercising.

Here are the headphones that I have loved the most so far.

Bose SoundSport Free, True Wireless Earbuds

  • Sweatproof Bluetooth Headphones for Workouts and Sports),
  • Black Bose SoundSport Free, True Wireless Earbuds

Meet the SoundSport Free headphones, the truly wireless in-ear headphones from Bose, made for the toughest workouts. They are engineered to deliver clear, powerful sound with nothing—not even a single wire—in your way. So you can achieve your personal best every time you use them.

I wore them every day running and walking on the beach, sweating so much that eventually, like all headphones, they broke.  However I was able to just put them in a random box and return them back to Bose for a completely new pair.

Now I am back at it, wearing my Bose SoundSport Free Earbuds while I listen to audio books, research different podcasts and rock out to my favorite playlists.

Bose SoundSport Free Wireless Earbuds

Bose SoundSport Free, True Wireless Earbuds - No wires mean no limits. And Bose sound sport free headphones are completely wireless, so you can enjoy total freedom of movement with nothing not even a single cord in your way. The acoustic package is designed to deliver sound so clear and powerful it will motivate you to go faster, lift heavier and train longer. Bluetooth technology transmits music from your phone to the headphones, so music plays reliably and consistently whether your phone is in your nearby gym bag, pocket or strapped to your arm.

Worried your earbuds will fall out during your workout? Don't be.

Crossfit Wireless Headphones

Stay hear, sport tips are built to stay comfortably in place, even when you're training hard. And if you can't find an earbud, all hope is not lost. You can track down lost earbuds using the Bose connect app's “find my buds” feature. It shows when and where the earbuds were last connected to your phone.

Still having trouble finding your earbuds? don't worry, an audio signal from the headphones can alert you to their location. Don't sweat your sweat (or the weather) either, because water repellent materials Inside the earbuds help keep moisture out. Off a single charge, the earbuds play for up to five hours, and the fully charged case gives you an additional 10 hours of music, ready to play when you are. When not in use, the charging case is designed with built in magnets to keep the earbuds securely in place.

Play or pause tracks and access your phone's Siri or your Google assistant right from the earbud. You can even take phone calls, through the right earbud only.

There are a few new headphones on the market or coming soon that I am interested in checking.

Especially the new True Wireless Earphones from Bose. Since Bose is a very trust with company, if these really don't work you can return exchange them like I did my previous Bose headphones. These are very expensive so I am very interest to HEAR if they are really worth the money.
